WE DO NOT TEST ON ANIMALS, all of our products are tested on humans! Therefore, we advise that you always check suitability. Breeds vary, skin pH vary, and some breeds are more sensitive to certain allergens. If you require custom formulating, please contact us directly. Patch test where appropriate.
This Pet Fur Detangling and Conditioning Spray could be suitable for several animals with specific fur types, including:
- Dogs: The formula is appropriate for dogs, especially those with long or thick fur that is prone to tangling. Ingredients like Panthenol and Polyquaternium-22 help detangle, moisturize, and condition the fur, making it smoother and shinier.
- Cats WE DO NOT RECOMMEND USING WITH CATS: Why? Although safe, caution for cats is prudent, due to their grooming habits and higher sensitivity to certain ingredients. Cats are particularly sensitive to fragrances and preservatives, so with any product it’s recommended to perform a patch test or use unscented options for more sensitive cats. Avoid spraying near their face, as cats are prone to grooming and may ingest any residue.
- Small mammals (e.g., rabbits, guinea pigs): This formula may be safe for small animals with long fur, like angora rabbits or long-haired guinea pigs. However, it’s critical to use very sparingly and avoid applying too close to the skin or face to minimize any risk of ingestion.
- Horses: Horses with manes and tails that require detangling and conditioning can benefit from this spray. The formula’s conditioning agents and anti-static properties are ideal for horse grooming and detangling.
Considerations
- Avoid using this spray on animals that have very short or fine fur, as they don’t typically need detangling agents.
- Avoid use on animals with sensitivities to fragrances, alcohol-based products, or preservatives (e.g., some cats and small mammals).
For best results and safety, patch test on a small area before use, and contact us if custom formulations or adjustments are needed for specific animal sensitivities.

Cautions when deciding on products:
Certain ingredients may not be suitable for all animals, particularly those sensitive to fragrances, alcohols, and certain preservatives. Here are some examples:
- Alcohol Denat.:
- Suitability: Safe in small amounts but can be drying.
- Considerations: Alcohol can irritate or dry out the skin of some animals, especially small mammals like rabbits, guinea pigs, or cats with sensitive skin. Cats are particularly sensitive to alcohol-based products due to their grooming behavior and higher likelihood of ingesting residues.
- Parfum (Fragrance):
- Suitability: Varies by animal; generally, fragrances should be avoided with sensitive animals.
- Considerations: Fragrances can irritate the skin and respiratory systems of animals, particularly cats, due to their sensitive olfactory system and grooming habits. For small animals or animals with allergies, unscented products are preferable.
- Methylparaben and Propylparaben:
- Suitability: Generally recognized as safe but can cause sensitivities in some animals.
- Considerations: Parabens are common preservatives in pet care products but can cause skin sensitivities in some animals. Cats are more likely to be sensitive to parabens, and, while typically safe in low concentrations, they should be used cautiously with animals prone to allergies or irritation.
- CI 19140 and CI 17200 (Colorants):
- Suitability: Primarily aesthetic, with no direct conditioning or detangling benefit.
- Considerations: Colorants are unnecessary for pets and may irritate animals with sensitive skin, like certain cats and smaller mammals. It’s best to avoid colorants in pet grooming products when possible, especially for pets that may groom themselves.
Recommendations by Animal Type:
- Cats: Avoid products with fragrances, alcohols, or non-essential additives like colorants. Always use a patch test.
- Small Mammals (e.g., rabbits, guinea pigs): Limit use of products with alcohol and fragrances, and avoid direct skin contact.
- Dogs and Horses: Typically tolerate these ingredients well, but fragrance-free and alcohol-free formulations are ideal for pets with sensitive skin.
For sensitive animals, it’s often best to select products formulated specifically for their needs or consult a vet to ensure all ingredients are safe. If you have specific requirements for a custom formula, please reach out for assistance.
